A manic month, September has seen four main strands of our rigging markets keeping us extremely busy.
From an engineering installation perspective, Simon Tiernan has been leading the way with the new flying system at The Theatre Royal, Newcastle. As with so many complex building projects, Unusual have had to work around others to ensure that deadlines are met and the theatre can re-open for Grease on October 17th.
At the other end of the country, our in-house rigging team at Earls Court have have had the seasonal swell of larger shows to deal with including PLASA, 100% Design and 'One Night Only' a special Armani fashion show in The Brompton Hall to be screened on Channel 4 Wednesday 27th September at 11:05pm.

The breadth of rigging work we undertake is well illustrated this month with a Vauxhall Corsa car launch at Milbrook, a 20 man team on the Paris Motor Show for Imagination and an extraordinary arts project called 'Margate Exodus', where Unusual are realising an Anthony Gormley creation. 'Waste Man' is an 85 foot high sculpture of a man made entirely of waste.
In our core theatre work, the weekend of September 9th/10th saw four touring show moves. Starlight went from Eastbourne to Southend, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from Birmingham to Liverpool, Cats loaded into Porto and Mamma Mia! out of Pretoria. In the West End, we can now confirm that the hills are actually alive and well for The Sound of Music at The Palladium and Porgy and Bess has started the fit up at The Savoy.
Behind the scenes at Unusual, we welcome the much needed addition to our design team in Young Ho Seo from Bath University. Testament to the fact that our premises are as clear of kit as they have ever been is the fact that our operations, warehouse and workshop staff have been working flat out to ensure that all our project teams are fully resourced to carry out their tasks.
