Unusual Services Limited is one of the country’s leading event organising companies specialising in large scale outdoor events. We are part of the Unusual Group of Companies, sister company to Unusual Rigging, Europe’s leading technical supply company of rigging, motion control and stage engineering, giving our production services a unique level of technical support. The Unusual Services team is a special blend of production and site management, design, music direction, choreography, and directorial skills, achieving brilliant results with its various projects as witnessed in ten years of ‘Joy to the World’ at The Royal Albert Hall, which was broadcast by the BBC each Christmas.
A unique aspect of the work undertaken by Unusual Services is its pedigree in production work for large scale events with military content or associations. This work extends to ceremonial occasions for The Royal Family and also various Birthday, Wedding, Anniversary and State Celebrations for the Jordanian Royal Family and Government.
Unusual Services was the main contractor to Her Majesty’s Government and was ultimately responsible for the delivery of the VE Day Celebrations in Hyde Park in 1995. At short notice in the summer of 1995, the skills as witnessed in Hyde Park in May, were called upon to produce “The Final Tribute”, the VJ day tribute in the Mall incorporating architectural projections, massed mounted bands and 2,000 children on Horseguards Parade. In 1997, Unusual Services were responsible for all elements of the production of The Royal Pageant of the Horse at Windsor Great Park. This was to be the largest ever equestrian event but was sadly cancelled five days before the event due to the wettest June since 1840. In January 1999, Unusual was invited to produce a special event to celebrate 100 years of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the Royal Family in Riyadh. This involved the design and implementation of a tracking Jumbotron with a screen area of 225 square metres.
Unusual Services had a long standing relationship with the production of The Royal Tournament, which attracted around a quarter of a million visitors each year. The integrated skills of Unusual’s production staff, rigging and automation specialists continually enhanced the production values of this well established show, year on year.
In 2002, Unusual Services provided production services for two major fundraising concerts at The Royal Albert Hall.
Unusual Services was appointed main contractor for the focal events in Central London for The Golden Jubilee Weekend in June 2002. Working with a core production team of 12, Unusual supplied the site infrastructure, performance activities involving over 20,000 participants, 5 stages and 27 big screens for a total attendance figure of 3 million people over 4 days.
In September 2002, Unusual provided infrastructure services for the Countryside Alliance march in Central London, including two fifteen tonne arches spanning Whitehall
