The Producers - Theatre Royal Drury Lane - 2006

“The Producers” is a heavy show squeezed into about a third of the depth of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane stage. Consequently, many pieces were hung at closer centres, and were heavier, than the house system could cope with. Unusual’s production team therefore came up with a solution of hanging heavy duty spreader beams directly from the roof trusses and supporting the majority of the drops and diverts required (well over a hundred for this show) from these. Many of the lighter pieces were flown from two house cradles (one each from stage left and stage right) with the drop wires crossing in the grid. This allowed the show to be hung with the minimum of alterations to the hardware of the house system. The whole show, including over a tonne of secondary steelwork, was installed during a period of three weeks in September 2004.
