Unusual Rigging were engaged by Tussauds, the operators of Chessington World of Adventures to upgrade their zipwire and to provide training.
The nature of the use of this wire - many times a day for the whole season above the public - was such that it was essential that the best and safest components were to be used.
To this end, Unusual commissioned a new zip wire trolley, which was CE marked. Although the zip wire had been used in 2000, the tree out of which Dennis and Softy were descending was made slightly taller for 2001 to improve the slide reliability in stronger headwinds. Unusual agreed with the client that it was prudent to install an additional back support to avoid any reduction in tension on the wire.
Unusual replaced the wire for the 2001 season and installed it onto the new back support. Harnesses were also supplied.
Training was provided for all the performers using the wire during the season. Emergency procedures were devised and rehearsed and the client was supplied with full documentation for the installation, standard and emergency procedures.
