The Deep is the remarkable new ‘submarium’ in Hull. Even though it is only a year old, they are continually working on the exhibits to encourage return visits from the massive attendance figures in their first year.

In this instance, Unusual’s client was the well established creative installation company, Scenic Route, who have already undertaken much of the installation work in The Deep. The task given to Unusual was to suspend a Newtsub Deepworker from the underside of a walkway.

The overall weight of the Newtsub and all assemblies was just under half a tonne. The first task was to suspend the piece of custom built truss and then attach the winch mechanism. Meanwhile, the sub was being assembled on the ground prior to fixing it onto the cradle. Finally, the cradle with the sub was lifted into position, deadhung and brailled off.

All the work was undertaken on-site after the musem was closed on Tuesday 4th March and the work was completed by midnight.
