Birmingham Hippodrome 2025

When Birmingham Hippodrome needed a long-term solution to access overhead theatre lanterns in its Grade II listed venue, Director of Operations Chris Moore turned to Unusual Rigging for support.

Unusual:

• designed, fabricated and installed two bespoke overhead access platforms above the flying system
• completed the work within a tight 10-day window while Only Fools and Horses was in full production    below
• developed a detailed installation and lift plan to minimise disruption and ensure safety throughout
• coordinated closely with venue staff, local authorities and structural engineers to gain early buy-in and ensure smooth execution
• craned materials from street level, working around local loading restrictions with council approval
• repurposed legacy Unusual pulleys to preserve lantern functionality through the new GRP floor
• delivered a safe, sustainable and futureproof access solution with minimal impact on ongoing theatre operations
