Earlier this year, when the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in the first national lockdown, we knew that as an industry we'd be hit incredibly hard. Overnight we went from being rushed off our feet to having virtually all of our projects put on hold. We've had our fingers in a number of pies for quite some time but have used the quieter period to look at ways to grow our reputation in the industries where we think our skills could be most beneficial. Diversifying into the construction sector seems like a natural move for us - we're used to working with architects and contractors to deliver projects like Garsington Opera Pavillion, Birmingham New Street Station and the English National Ballet's new home on London City Island. We've installed crash decks in places which has allowed for construction work to take place at height while other works or even every day life can continue at ground level.

We've been working with David Taylor, editor of The Construction Index magazine to produce a special feature for the November edition of the magazine. David spoke with MD Tom Harper and Director Steve Porter about how Unusual's reputation as experts in the entertainment industry can be put to good use in the construction industry to deliver smart, cost and time effective solutions.
